WWE No Mercy Review

By Jim Kennedy

Usually when you have a pay-per-view card that has two Wrestlemania-esqe matches, you'd think the show itself would be a good one. Eminating from the famous Staples Center in Los Angeles, No Mercy had the feel of Wrestlemania on paper, but the show didn't have that feel as it went on. Still, No Mercy was a success in my opinion, and this review will tell you why.

Best Match of the Night: Roman Reigns def. John Cena
I admit I was suspect of this match going into the pay-per-view. I thought this could potentially be just an overhyped match with a disappointing ending. Well, I admit, I was wrong. Both Cena and Reigns brought out everything and anything in their respective arsenals. It was hard fought, back and forth battle between two of WWE's biggest stars, and in the end, Reigns prevailed. The next night, Reigns admitted that he has respect for Cena now. This match isn't match of the year, but it was a damn good one, and definitely deserved match of the night.

Worst Match of the Night: Brock Lesnar def. Braun Strowman to retain the Universal Championship
The fight was billed "The Beast vs. The Monster", and yet it takes one F5 to down Braun Strowman? I was expecting Lesnar to be in the fight for his life in this match, and it didn't really come to that. This match was overhyped for the results to be like that. If it took Lesnar three or four F5's to down Strowman and over 100 German suplexes to daze him, then I would say different. But I am of the belief that there should've been more to this match, and because of it, it's the worst match of the night.

Moment of the Night: Enzo wins the Cruiserweight Title (Huh?)
Yeah, you read that right: Enzo Amore, the Cruiserweight Certified G, won the Cruiserweight Championship, dethroning the King of the Cruiserweight, Neville. The match in itself was all Neville, but Amore gave Neville a kick in the royal jewels after the ref turned his back, and got the pinfall victory. Seeing that this was the only Championship change for the entire pay-per-view, it's only fitting to give the bonified stud the recognition he deserves.

Overal Grade: B+
The only matches that were really underwhelming were the Universal title match and the Women's fatal 5 way (Bliss retaining? I can't see Asuka/Bliss at TLC being a good match at all). Every other match exceeded expectations. Balor and Wyatt went at it, the Tag Team championship rose the bar for the division (see what I did there?). The cruiserweight match was ok, but could've been better. All in all though, No Mercy was a good pay-per-view.
