Pay-Per-View Predictions: Summerslam

It's the party of the summer in the WWE, and we here at BTTR want to take a look at the possible matches that could happen at the Barclays Center. (Note: some matches have already been confirmed on both Raw and Smackdown Live).

Raw
  • Universal Championship Fatal 4 Way: Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe vs Braun Strowman: I was hoping that we would see Reigns vs Lesnar for the title at Summerslam instead of Wrestlemania 34, but because WWE can’t let the Strowman/Reigns rivalry die, we’re now looking into a fatal 4 way. (Match confirmed)

  • Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt: Continuing his “Eater of World” theme, Wyatt set his sights on a returning Finn Balor after the Superstar Shake-Up sent the former WWE Champion to Raw. Fans have wondered when we will see Balor’s famous “Demon King” moniker, which hasn’t been seen since his Universal Championship win at SummerSlam last year. We may finally see it as Wyatt looks to take on the “Demon King” himself for his own sadistic, twisted reasons.
  • Raw Tag Team Championship: Sheamus and Cesaro (c) vs The Revival: Look, the Hardyz have had their chances, and Gallows and Anderson are good, but I think it’s time the Revival got their title shot now. If this plays out well, we could potentially see a match of the night candidate between the veterans and the rookies.

  • Raw Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss (c) vs Bayley: In a rematch to their title match at Payback, Bayley looks to regain the women’s title from the woman who stole it from her in her hometown. Bliss looks to continue her reign of dominance on the red brand, and seeing that Nia Jax is no longer a threat to her title (for now), she can focus on the WWE’s favorite hugger. (Match Confirmed)

  • Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat: The Miz (c) vs Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins: Ambrose is still in the title hunt, but with the Miz and his Miztourage attacking Seth Rollins a few weeks ago on Raw, it’s become evident that both will challenge the Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. See that a triple threat means no disqualification, there’s no need for a major stipulation. But it wouldn’t hurt to ban the Miztourage and Maryse from ringside, especially if this match wants to steal the show at Summerslam.

SmackDown Live
  • WWE Championship: Jinder Mahal (c) vs John Cena: Since winning his record-tying 16th WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, the question has been: when will John Cena win #17? I think that it’ll be at Summerslam. Record breaking victory at the Barclays Center for one of the Big Four pay-per-views, it’s an easy pick for a match.
  • Smackdown Women’s Championship: Naomi (c) vs Natalya: This match became official after Natalya won a 5 way elimination match at Battleground, defeating Becky Lynch, Lana, Tamina, and pinning Charlotte at the end of the match to be crowned the #1 contender. After the match, Naomi entered the ring to congratulate her opponent, but Natalya decided to just leave the ring. There’s time to develop this storyline, so even though on paper it’s not a real good matchup, the storyline could potentially make it work if played well.
  • United States Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs Shinsuke Nakamura: Since making his main roster debut after Wrestlemania 33, Nakamura has made a name for himself on the blue brand. It was only a matter of time until he gets his first main roster title shot, and the king of strong style has his eyes on the United States Championship, currently held by AJ Styles, who defeated Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens in a Triple Threat Match on the July 25th edition of Smackdown Live. A Wrestlemania-type match at Summerslam between two great entertainers, please WWE, make this happen!
  • Kevin Owens vs Shane McMahon: So far, the commissioner of the Land of Opportunity is 0-1 in pay-per-view matches this year, and with what has transpired between Shane and former U.S. Champion Kevin Owens, including a staredown during the July 25th edition of Smackdown Live, all indicators are pointing at a possible match between the “New Face of America” and the high-risk commish.

  • Smackdown Tag Team Championship: New Day (c) vs The Usos: The Usos won the first match at Money In The Bank, the New Day won the second at Battleground, so it’s only natural there’s a rubber match.
